Natural Graphite Grinding Process

Description

Natural graphite, a crystalline form of carbon, is prized for its unique properties such as high conductivity, lubricity, and thermal stability. It is widely used in various industries, including batteries, refractories, lubricants, and more. To maximize its applications, natural graphite must be ground into fine particles with specific sizes and qualities, depending on the end-use.

Application

The finely ground natural graphite is crucial in several industries:

  • Battery Industry: Used as anode material in lithium-ion batteries due to its excellent conductivity and stable structure.
  • Refractories: Employed in high-temperature applications like steelmaking, where it provides thermal resistance and stability.
  • Lubricants: Serves as a dry lubricant in applications where liquid lubricants are not feasible.
  • Electronics: Used in electronic products due to its ability to conduct electricity and heat.
  • Composites: Acts as a filler in composite materials, enhancing strength, durability, and thermal properties.

Graphite Powder Processing Technology

  • Crushing: The natural graphite ore is first crushed using a jaw crusher to reduce the material to manageable sizes. This is a crucial step to prepare the material for grinding.
  • Grinding: The crushed graphite is then fed into a grinding mill. Depending on the desired particle size and production requirements, different types of grinding mills can be used:
    • MTW European Trapezium Mill: Suitable for producing fine and medium-fine graphite powder.
    • SCM Ultrafine Mill: Ideal for producing ultrafine graphite powder with high precision.
    • LM Vertical Mill: Can handle larger feed sizes and is efficient for producing coarse to fine graphite powder.
    • LUM Ultrafine Vertical Mill: Specially designed for ultrafine powder production with high capacity.
  • Classification: After grinding, the graphite powder is classified using a powder separator to ensure the required particle size distribution. Finer particles are separated for further use, while oversized particles may be sent back to the mill for regrinding.
  • Drying: Depending on the moisture content, the graphite powder may undergo a drying process to achieve the desired moisture level. This step is essential for applications where low moisture content is critical.
  • Packaging: Finally, the ground and classified graphite powder is packaged for storage or shipment to customers. Proper packaging is essential to prevent contamination and maintain the quality of the graphite powder.
  • LM Vertical Mill

Based on the absorption of advanced technologies of famous international corporations and 30 years’ experience in grinding mill production, SBM has launched the LM Vertical Grinding Mill which integrates five functions of crushing, grinding, powder selection, drying and material conveying. It is characterized by centralized technological process, small occupational area, low investment, high efficiency, energy conservation and environment protection.

  • MTW European Trapezium Mill

MTW European Grinding Mill is innovatively designed through deep research on grinding mills and development experience. It absorbs the latest European powder grinding technology and concept, and combines the suggestions of 9158 customers on grinding mills. This grinding mill perfectly satisfies the production demands of the customers on 200-33μm (80-425Mesh) fine powder.

  • SCM Ultrafine Mill

SCM Ultrafine Grinding Mill is a new superfine powder (325-2500 mesh) production equipment developed through accumulating years of experience in grinding mill production, absorbing Swedish advanced machine manufacturing technology, and undergoing many years of tests and improvements. The SCM Ultrafine Grinding Mill is the result of combination of advanced Chinese and Swedish technologies. Meanwhile, it symbolizes the new development and new science in the grinding world.
